Hi
I have a replacement fan/light to install - on the wall are two switches that control the old fan and light
On the new fan there is a live(brown)/neutral(blue)/earth(green/yellow) connection -
coming from the roof from the old fan is 3 core and earth - red, blue, yellow and bare (yellow/green cover)
So do I connect the Red to the Brown terminal
Blue to the Blue
Yellow/Green to the Yellow/Green Earth
then what to do with the spare Yellow?
Into a terminal choc block on it's own? is it now needed?
Means just one of the switches on the wall then turns on the fan/light (which is on a remote conttrol)?

Fan has 3x2 choc block with blue, earth, brown going into it
The wire in the ceiling is old style 3 core- red, blue, yellow and earth

As you describe will do the job, then just leave that switch on.

However we find we tend to use the light switch normally (and the light works normally with the switch each time) then only use the remote control when we require the fan.

A friend wanted to do away with the remote control altogether which was quite easy to do but long enough ago that I can't recall detail.

OK thanks Sunray

WIth
Red to the Brown terminal
Blue to the Blue terminal
Yellow/Green to the Yellow/Green Earth terminal
spare yellow in terminal choc block on it's own

All works - one switch turns the light on then use the remote to operate fan as you say

Other swith in the double wall plate is redundant then
cheers

It sounds like the old fan was a timer fan and you haven’t bought the same type as a replacement.
The old simply had a switch for the fan and another for the light.
The replacement is designed for permanent live and comes with a remote control, just about the only way they seem to come these days apart from the type with hanging chains.
