If your aunts garden is lower than the neighbours then that's her problem, the neighbours are entitled to build from the highest adjacent land on their property

They have permission as they went through prior approval. Maybe your aunt missed the letter but they are authorised to do the works. The height would be governed by THEIR land... not yours.

As unfortunate as it might be there is nothing that can be done. Unless you can measure the height from THEIR land and they are above the PD allowable size there is nothing you can do.

Contacted the local planning and was told the same thing , I would have thought that the letter authorising the work would have been sent by recorded delivery rather than standard post to make sure it got to the destination .

The planning officer did say that council most likely would have allowed the works to go ahead anyway as it fell within the 6 metre PD . She said to look at it as a positive as if my aunt was to sell , the extension would have set a precedent .

They have nearly finished it now and just the roof to go on .

guess there right in a way. For anyone wanting to extend its good knowing that there is a possibility of a 6m extension.

It did... to the applicant, not to your aunt. Neighbours don't receive evidence of the approval, this would be available online.

What your aunt should've received is a consultation letter, but again, without a really good reason, her opinion wouldn't have changed anything.
