People working in stock market take one million pound yearly bonuses . That's where the problem is. They are bleeding the pension funds dry.
The government are in the process of removing the restriction on bank bonuses.
meanwhile the governor of the Bank of England says we must all keep a restraint on wages.

Ah, right. Is that what those train drivers on an average of £50k a year are striking for, the poor people on minimum wage or do they think that just they should be getting a 9%+ rise?
That Mick Lynch is a typical old school Union boss dinosaur. Mind you his salary isn’t old school - £84 - £124k p.a. Depending on where you look. He's not doing too bad for himself, is he?
Can someone answer this: If EVERYONE got a 9% wage rise, prices for everything would have to go up so they would be no better off, wouldn’t they? In that case, would they go on strike again? What’s so special about a train driver anyway - they only have to push a lever backwards and forwards!
As MPs recently awarded themselves a 2.7% pay rise then a similar deal for the RMT would be fair, no?

Are drivers on strike I thought they were a different union?
I recollect noticing they get ~£44k a year but when numbers like that are mentioned in some quarters they may not reflect what they do get, more what they might get.
Boris says he has put £16.4b in but that was due to covid. He relates that to a need to modernising rail to get costs down. The usual is ~£5b / year for improvements spread across the network east line getting most. The bosses say train usage has changed post covid even that Sunday is their busiest day. Really??? It appears that working on Sunday is done on a volunteer basis for some or all workers. They didn't say.
Population use of trains depends on the area concerned. Lower numbers in Wales for instance use it to get to work.

Which leads to stagflation, and that's very difficult to get out of!
There are additional issues that came about because of the 'virus', whereby companies and individuals took money for work not done. And that is money that the population has to pay back. Printing money always leads to further inflation, especially when there is no productivity linked to such hand outs...
Of course the UK is worse off than most given it's new position as a small third country, and that reflects in the currency fall which is yet another inflationary pressure!
So, are you saying only the train workers should get a rise but nobody else? Do you agree with the strike?
And to think, you had the chance to leave but either were refused entry or bottled it. Which was it again?

Just to clarify, the drivers aren't on strike. ASLEF represents 90% of drivers, the rest are not union members although some could be in other unions?
The Tories keep banging on about what the drivers earn but that isn't the strike issue.
the RMT covers everyone from cleaners to signalmen/maintenance operatives.
For some weird reason the cleaners are not categorised as Railway workers, despite being in the union and working on trains/stations.
The Government keep quoting Median Salaries that exclude the striking (low paid) cleaners but include the (well paid IMHO) drivers who are NOT on strike.
I work with a bunch of guys who are paid way more than me, different job, different union.
If I negotiate through my union for a pay rise, my employer can't justify "Median Wage" by including my co-workers salary.
