Morning all

We have a dual flush push button toilet, inherited when we moved into this house about a month ago. I don't have much experience of these except for a new one that I fitted in a previous house and which we didn't have for long enough to encounter any problems, and our last system was the standard lever flush.

When you push either button, the water carries on running into the pan as well as the cistern, so the cistern takes much longer to fill up. Lifting and replacing the edge of the cistern lid cures the problem, which indicates to me that something is sticking and is released by lifting the lid. Could it be that the two pegs inside the cistern lid are too long and need trimming, or would this be something sticking in the mechanism inside the cistern itself?

Thanks in advance.

You may be on the right track with the pins being too long, trial & error will tell you.
Sometimes the mechanisms stick due to limescale & crud build up.
Most of them have a bayonet fitting at the bottom which allows you to remove them without having to take the cistern off.

Many thanks for the reply. If it isn't the pins, I might just replace the mechanism if it can be removed easily.

Winding the screws in slightly seems to have fixed the problem. Many thanks again.
