Is this gas connection legal? If so, where can I get a replacement flexipipe or rubber washers?

My hob is connected by what appears to be an ordinary 1/2 inch BSP to 1/2 inch BSP flexi-pipe. Is this allowable? Maybe it's a 'special' kind of pipe, but I can't find anything like it online with a search for 'gas flexi pipe'.

The installation passed gas safety checks for several years but I don't know how close the engineer actually looked. I've replaced the hob like for like as I'm fitting a new kitchen, but there is a definite and persistent smell of gas when I open the valve, so the pipe is obviously not sealing. The washers in it don't look great so I'd like to know what to do next to make it safe as I obviously don't want to blow myself - or anybody else - up. Thanks!

STOP! - you need a Gas Safe engineer.
Leave the valve turned off and if you smell gas again call the national gas emergency number 0800 111 999.

Someone's got to be taking the Pi$$. If not, as suggested leave that turned off and get a professional in.

A gas engineer doing a gas safety check wouldn't remove anything (e.g. fitted oven) to check if the supply pipe to the hob was ok. If it passed all the basic tests then there would be no need to check anything.

If you know who fitted that then they should be reported, that's downright dangerous and could easily have killed you and yours!!

Thanks. It's been in the house since before I bought it unfortunately, so I have no idea who did it. I've owned the property for the last 7 years or so, and discovered this when I took out the old kitchen. Weirdly the connector on the brand new hob is 1/2 inch BSP. Are there not gas specific fittings to stop people using plumbing ones innappropriately?
