I have an iron that I’ve owned for 2.5 years and it keeps tripping the RCD.
I’ve tried it in different sockets (on different RCD’s), same result.

It trips the RCD within a few seconds of being switched on. All other devices work fine in the same sockets.

I am inclination is to replace the iron but I had the same issue with the iron I replaced prior to this. It’s a “standard” iron on a lead with the steam function (when filled with water).

I do own a Megger MFT incase it has any application here and if it is a case of a duff iron, is there a different type of iron that is less prone to this issue?

Thanks in advance.

You don't suppose you might be over-filling the irons with water?

Use your MFT to perform the equivalent of a PATest?
500V d.c. insulation test for 10 seconds - resistance between live/neutral and earth should be greater than 1M Ohm.
...make sure the iron is turned on, i.e. thermostat has engaged.
As above, this test is probably going to show that you need a new iron!
