Hi S,Have a look at this, prices might vary slightly locally:
Energy Cost Comparison - Nottingham Energy Partnership
Different energy sources are measured in different units: kWh, therms, BTU, cubic metres, litres and more. This makes it very difficult to compare the actual costs for powering a heating system between different energy sources. In order to make a fair comparison we need standardised units to...nottenergy.com
Hi S,If I had the facility, I'd be using wood, because I have loads of it, and it cost me nothing.
Hi S2,Hi S,
That's interesting, thanks.

Hi J,If it's of interest, all future regulations will favour electricity over all other fuels, for all uses, including heating.
And how are they going to generate all this electricity? Not in my life time.If it's of interest, all future regulations will favour electricity over all other fuels, for all uses, including heating.

Haha, no!Hi S,
I have the facilty, do you live in Dorset?

Hi J,And how are they going to generate all this electricity? Not in my life time.![]()
Hi J,It is fact. Regulations have already changed to this effect, but have been set up in a way that electricity will grow in dominance where fossil fuels will recede. It's hard to imagine now but that is the way it is going.
Solar panels will play a large part in that, as will wind and wave generation. Heat pumps are just ok at the moment as long as the fabric is suitable, but you should be very careful if your home is not well insulated? The main problem with heat pumps at the moment is hot water, which must be somehow boosted. The standard model is by immersion heater, which seems like a bit of a backward step, but this will change over time as electricity becomes the main heating fuel. It will all rest on the cost of fuel. We are used to gas being cheap but that will definitely change.
