There were a lot of different existing medications that were tried to see if they worked on COVID. Many of them didn't work. Does anyone remember first big one that did?

A highly available, out-of-patent steroid Dexamethasone. It cost pennies, saved roughly 1/5 to 1/3 of the people it was given to and no one made any meaningful profit in it.

It's almost as if on average the world's medical professionals are people who want to help others using medication that works.
