If you understand what is happening here . . . . Then you will already understand that we are fubar.

Best link I've seen for ages.

Racing to the bottom in action, and well rewarded for it

I worked for the post office a few years ago, it was only a temporary job coming up to Christmas but even back then the priority was delivering parcels.
The permanent postman with whom i worked told me that profits from parcel delivery subsidise letter delivery.
The sorting office was beside the main post office where the public come in to buy stamps and stuff like that.
One day an old lady came to buy a stamp for a letter she wanted to post to London, when she heard the price of the stamp, it was only about 60p, she moaned that it was very expensive, the bloke behind the counter said, if you think its too expensive, why don't you try delivering your letter to London yourself for less.

The interviewer's completely incompetent. A very unimpressive load of idiocy. He's got no figures, no comparisons, just vague accusations. He's clearly trying to find shortcomings in the PO guy, and hasn't found any so he's "not happy with the answers".
He's positing straw-man arguments and asking the PO many to justify other people's criticism of him.
A fool. Never heard of a PDA ffs, doesn't know what it's for. The sort of politician who's never had a job, perhaps.

He even went low enough to imply the PO man wasn't being honest, with zero evidence cited. Sack him.

SNAFU

It segued into a Two Ronnies sketch, where the CEO answered a different question to the one just asked.

Nils Pratley @theGuardian does a good summary:

Talks between Royal Mail and the CWU continue at Acas, the conciliation service. We’ll wait to see if they bring a deal but, in the meantime, outsiders are now better able to see how this dispute could have dragged on for nine months already. Charm and trust does not ooze from the boardroom; realism over Royal Mail’s weak finances is in short supply on the other side.

That’s one of only two things I agree with you on. The other is the covid vaccination. It’s a shame you can’t see the light about Br………. Nope. Not going to say the word!

That's ok if you understand why he was even in that meeting

The public is strongly in favour of a national postal service in public ownership.

It is a great pity that the nation has been damaged by governments enthralled by Thatcherite dogma.

When the misleadingly named "Royal Mail" goes bust, perhaps we shall have one again.

Really? Did you know that RM have been delivering smaller amazon parcels on foot? Didn't seem to last long or maybe I don't receive enough to know if it's continuing.
What a lot if the dispute is about concerns gig economy concepts as Amazon use.
