Hello

so, I brought a simple power extension cable, 1m where I only need half this, so I plan to make it smaller, if I don’t it would cause a trip hazar. Now here is the bit i need advice for, the actual socket section has the cable entering on the right, but I need it from the left side. I have the ability to change, solder and fill the cable hole that would need removing from.

so, obviously there are 3 parts inside the extension, for the power, the earth, live and natural strip that connects all sockets, would having the cable connect from the opposite side be a problem, aka would this reverse the loop as it were?

I suspect this will be difficult to do in a safe and effective manner. Some extension strips are not desgined to be dismantled, and even if yours can be dismantled non-destructively you will not have any cord grip at the other end.

Might be easiest to just buy a product that meets your needs

A photo or two would certainly help with this question.

The word used here is "cable".

We now have a "socket section".

Hence, it appears that this may be a "power strip" and not a "cable" - and this is further indicated below.

There appears to be a "concern" about having a "cable" entering a "power strip" from the right side, as opposed to the left - or vice-versa - but, why?
The "plugs" may need to be inserted into the "sockets" with the "lead" in an upwards direction (rather than the 'normal" downward direction) but, does that matter?

Again, photographs would be helpful to explain exactly that which is seen to be the problem.

Okay, so let me try and word it as best as I can with pictures.

I have a 4 way extension cable of 1m coming out of the extension block of sockets via the right side.

I need the cable to come out of the left side, why? Limited space where this will be mounted, it can’t go upside down as the plugs that will go into it won’t.

It’s just normal screws that came out of the extension cable, so it was easy to take apart.

Why not buy a new one? Well, money and e-waste.

So, I plan to unsolder the right hand side as looking at it, to the left. I have everything I need to do this and test. Just need someone to confirm the circuit is still being complete here. I am 99.9% sure

The casing has a space at the right hand side for the cable, connectors and cord grip.

It has no space at the left hand side

But you are obviously determined to carry on.

Goodbye.

He says the cable is too long.

He could easily run it under the strip from one side to the other.

Those internal connections are spot welded, not soldered.

Yeah, just noticed that myself…

Hey, I listen… lol nah all honesty as it’s spot welded on I am going to try and reroute the cable.

Why not spin the 4 way through 180°?
or
buy another style.

What do you mean?

I am always happy to learn here…

There are several things of my “bright ideas” that I have, that turn out to be infeasible. My mum was in a house fire as a child… a result of their holiday home - rented btw, had a house extension but didn’t put in a new fuse board, and attached new wiring onto old and the power was totally messed up.

I am autistic, and I’m bed I find it hard to shut of my brain, to the point late at night if I have a “bright idea” yes in my head I need to do it asap, and I live at home with my mum who was a school caretaker/site manager/Foreman/plumber/electrician/landscaper plus loads more as she oversaw 3/4 of a school being built, while looking after the old school, she also found several bits of bad work, which one time in a classroom a plug socket gave her a nasty shock and burn, just a week before 5 year olds were due. So I mostly ask my mum all this and that, but at night I can’t just go to her room and ask her all these questions…

She has also told me to thread the wire through either trunking or carefully via the extension box if there is room.

She is already ahead of me, look what she got from the shed for me.
