If the west has any sense it should start to significantly, and quickly, increase defence spend and capacity over and above existing strategy. The tree-hugging lefty types that would have us with no nuclear deterrent, hardly any armed forces etc are living in cloud cuckoo land.

So you'd like to see us stop spending on defence and pharmaceuticals because someone makes a profit on them? Are you against people making a profit? Would you like to see a multimillion pound company earn the same 'profit' as a care home worker I.E. you?

But there was never any money available before, so where has it come from?

As far as I'm concerned any increase is welcome, but its a bit late, and I don't think it's anywhere near enough if the world scene worsens. A little more over the last few years would have been better. But everybody seemed to be happy about the Tories cutting costs, rather than seeking better finance options (taxation policies)

Anyone who advocates a reduction in our defences is, in my opinion, at best misinformed about what the consequences of this could be. We've been the muppets over past years for thinking there was any sort of real, consistent genuine geopolitical relationship with countries such as Russia and China. We bent over backwards, they looked on us (and still do) as useful idiots.
