After neighbour had new roof last year - Tiles falling off my roof in recent winds

My neighbour had a new roof installed last year , and we also agreed to get a rear party chimney taken down at the same time.

This year some tiles fell off where the chimney was. I had not seen any picture of the roof until this incident. (I did ask but forgot to follow up) Anyway Roofer fixed under warranty but said because my tiles were "old" they could not secure them 100%. As a result of this incident I've now seen a few pictures: It seems that my tiles have not been secured properly where they split the roof. Also the new ridgeline looks lower and they've perched a ridge tile across so it's flush on the neighbour's side but not mine.

Any thoughts from pictures alone? Before (front) and After (back) pictures are attached.

I now suspect this may be an issue with the batten spacing they used to bridge the chimney space, the gutter and my tile size?

Poor job with the bonding gutter, the ridges on it kick the tiles up and the right hand bit of tile that's on the batten is too high to hook over properly - on the section where the tiles have come off I can't even see any battens. Maybe a wet gutter would have been better as a load of mortar would have held everything in place for a few years, drilling and double nailing each tile on the right hand side might do the trick, knocking off any nibs on the tiles where they sit on the gutter (sorry I'm not a roofer so not familiar with your tiles) can get them to sit lower which also may help.

Never heard of you needing a new roof because your neighbours had one.

There is supposed to be a British Standard for roofing work which lays down the requirement for mechanical fixing of perimeter tiles which no one seems to take the blindest bit of notice of.

Thank you cdbe - my own layman investigation is pointing towards a badly installed bonding gutter (which incidentally also encroaches on my property without agreement) - so I'm having an independent roofer quote to make good and also seeking advice from my insurance company.

As for Herts P&D and noseall - your responses to the actual issue embody this forum's growing (changing?) reputation - take a bow.

That bonding gutter work is uglier than a hatful of arseholes.

Yup neighbour has paid and it also encroaches. It's even worse at the front -saw it for the first time yesterday. They removed tiles on the party line without permission and the gutter now falls mostly on my side. I'm contacting my insurance company for guidance / next steps. I dont trust the neighbours roofer to sort it out because they made such a mess in the first place and they constantly push back on doing anything properly. I'd rather get my roofer to fix/make safe and then chase either neighbour or their roofer to pay - but need to get an independent survey/roofer to understand what's wrong.

Expecting things that don't bend (tiles) to sit nicely on a substrate that's up and down like a motocross course would be my first stab at it!

No way that gutter can possibly be sitting flush with the batten line in all the places where it counts..

True. It looks like a dogs arse. Lazy/incompetent roofers. Those tiles of yours are horrendous though.

So my insurance doesn't cover "Loss or damage arising from faulty workmanship, defective design or use of defective materials" - which I think this is except they were contracted by the neighbour not me - so might come under negligence/duty of care? anyway once I get a quote back I'll get it sorted right away (hopefully by my trusted roofer if available) and meanwhile, I'll speak to citizens' advice as to who and the best way to chase compensation.
