Next to nothing wrong as far as I've seen reported. He put a couple of contacts in touch with each other. That seems to be about it. Nothing unusual happened in his appointment. The Cabinet or a couple from it, always makes the appointment, in effect. He was eminently suited to the job.
Has anyone seen what the final straw for him was?

How many households-worth of licence fees has he been paid in the short time he's worked there?

It's probably equivalent to at least a small town's worth of hard-earned cash taken from the working classes.

We opted out of paying the beeb about 2 years ago, now legally watch only non-live non-BBC TV, in fact exactly as we almost always used to when we paid it. Many people don't know that it's not compulsory. You can have a TV but not pay it, and many more every month are now doing this.

It's best to cancel via the BBC rather than just cancelling the direct debit. This way most also get an £85-ish refund, as anyone on direct debit pays six months in hand.

A bit more has come out now but it still looks like two 99ths of F all. He didn't do anything wrong. He asked if he needed to declare anything, and was told no.
Ok he's a toff who knows lots o toffs. Much the same as the nonsense that was puffed up over Gavyn Davies/Blair. They're always supporters of the party in power.

But there's no evidence that happened, is there. You made it up. All we've been told is that in effect a phone number was passed.

In some roles, one has to be seen to be above reproach.

HE, HIM, the candidate signed to say, 'no, I have no conflicts of interest'. He certainly DID help facilitate the loan; and he DID phone the PM to tell him he was applying for the post.

Of course the language I used is made up. But BOTH of these breaches happened. I'll wager my pension that he didn't ring HR at the Beeb and ask for advice on whether or not he should make a note of these two events on his disclosure form.

The former Goldman Sachs banker, who has been advised that asking for the job while arranging a £0.8 million loan for the person he was asking means he has perception problems, saw his gilt-edged invitation slide under the door the very moment he quit.

He said: “Apparently they meet in the City of London’s historic Guild Hall every Friday at 1pm. It used to be a room above a pub but membership’s grown exponentially.

“Petronella Wyatt emailed and said it’s casual dress as most of the girls are in next-to-nothing anyway, and there’s no free bar because usually attendees have lost substantial sums in qualifying for membership.

“I must say it’ll be nice to see Allegra Stratton again, and of course so many of the people involved in the Garden Bridge, the Leave campaign, and Partygate. Largely we’ll discuss how we didn’t think it would happen to us and what dickheads we were.

“There is an argument for the entire country to be invited, but the club’s strictly for those to whom he did it personally. Otherwise we’d have the whole of the Red Wall in.”

Later, Sharp is expected to say: “Rishi? What are you doing here?”

Did he? Not that I've seen suggested.
I repeat, all I've seen is that he supplied a name. I wouldn't say that's enough of a conflict of interest.

IF he did more than that, then it's clear cut. Did he though?

"Causing too much trouble" is a bit feeble as a reason to resign, but it does look that way.
