Hi,

I have a draincock on the cold main going into my megaflo. The draincock needs to be replaced. Does this require a certified person, or can any plumber do it?

I am asking because one plumber told me he can't do it because he isn't certified, but another said anyone can do it because it's on the pipe and it's not work on the megaflo itself.

Thanks

Why does it need replaced? Is it dripping? If so then you may find that it's just the internals of the valve that's needed, most drain valves have the same internal structure, just need to make sure it's either a Type A or Type B and then just try just swapping them out, anyone could probably manage that if they're handy.

I have never done that , it was someone else :ROFLMAO:
but the gaffer never told me to take the bits out, just before I turned it too hot with the torch, there was this strange smell of rubber, the solder didn't run properly and it just fell back out when it was filled

Oh we all laughed gaily as we watched the water flowing down into the ceiling below :ROFLMAO:

Thanks for the suggestion. It's covered in limescale, and water is dripping through the limescale (not the spout), I think the leak is in the place where it's connected to the pipe. I've marked the drop with red here

Ah ok so it's leaking at the connection, as suggested any plumber can repair that. May not even need replaced, just repaired, needs to be cleaned up and checked

The other chap was probably just hedging his best and erring on the side of caution given it's the mains supply to the unvented.

Thanks. If it doesn't require certification, then I suppose it could be a diy job as well - drain the cylinder, replace the draincock, fill it up again. I am not a very experienced diy-er, so probably will leave this to a pro - too many things could go wrong. But it's tempting :sneaky:

Out of interest, could this whole tee be replaced with a compression tee, or does this all have to be soldered (is there some regulation about compression fittings this close to a cylinder)?
