Hi, I have this heating system

I fitted a dual channel Hive but when I turn the heating on it does not
make the valve sound or fire up the boiler. But when I turn the water setting on it turns the heating on with it.

This is how it is wired

this is how the old R6660d was wired

Please help. I have tried it in different wires in the Hive…

Move the black wire (oversleeved brown) to terminal 4.

The green/yellow wire should be confirmed as an earth connection and wired to the earth block on the Hive backplate.

Be careful when you drain off and clean out the magnetic filter!

...and if you wish to have full control of heating and hot water via the Hive, replacement of the (Horstmann?) controller, may be a straightforward option.

Thanks RandomGrinch, I am still confused as to how one wire turns on the pump and valves :). Seems crazy complicated junction box. So if I ditched the Hortsmann, I would not worry about the bridge wire etc. Just wire the Hortsmann wires to the Hive with the sleeved wire still going to number 4 port? Am I right in saying with my system the hot water always comes on with the heating anyway?

I'm not quite sure what you are trying to say here, but if you show us the wiring behind the Horstmann (What is the exact model?), we can see if it is feasible to replace it with the Hive.

The wiring to your existing R6660D would have to be bridged out, to allow the Hive to take full control.

No, your system should be able to provide heating without hot water.

Some good information on C/H wiring here:

Is that how it works then, I should keep Hortsman for that and wire Hive to channel 4 still

Well, you're the one there! ;)

We need to know that the system works correctly, before Messing around with the wiring.

If it is working correctly, we can replace both the Horstmann and the R6660D with the Hive.

if you put a link between L&1 on the hive it will work, but you really should have got a dual channel hive and done it properly
Sorry, they have a dual channel.
They were originally replacing just the R6660D, so a single channel would have sufficed.
It's been my suggestion, to fully utilise the dual channel to control water and heating.

Sorry never seen that, then making a link wont do anything, probably need to do some linking out at the old control

Apparently not!
The Horstmann programmer seems to be exclusively controling hot water and the R6660D seems to be exclusively controlling heating.

There would be duplication of L,N and E, but it would be a simple job (without delving into the wiring centre), to just stick the Horstmann and R6660D cables straight into the dual channel Hive.

....that is, if I could get confirmation from the OP, that this was how their system worked!

Thanks for your help guys. I am back home tonight and will have a play with the settings and wiring. Will let you know the outcome cheers
