If the West allow Putin to win, he will become bolder and it will just cost the West more in the future.

The problem the 'West' faces is they do not have the moral highground anymore unlike the second world war.

Look at how we treat our citizens - you think we could rally around the flag to save the UK? I bet many would say let it burn it's not that they have gained much from living from paycheque to paycheque.

This is how demagogues get into power like Trump and now in Holland. The free wheeling laissez faire economic system will create a few winners and many loser and these people who are struggling are easy fodder for the right wingers who will just blame an out group as the cause of their problems and not the system that has actually caused it. So the poor, unhealthy, disabled etc are demonised as being traitors who are the ones stopping you from succeeding in life.
