another brexit benefit: we are free to import as much rotten meat as we like

Have UK still not implemented the import controls regime?

I need my meds looked at. I could have sworn we were taking back control of our borders...

The fact that they were discovered at all suggests we have at least some control at the borders, would they have been discovered had the lorries simply been waived through.

And for the avoidance of doubt, a lot of this 'rotten meat' was from EU countries, just like the horses pretending to be cows.

The shocking discovery of illegal meat in lorries at Dover port has intensified concerns about the threat of an outbreak of deadly African swine fever (ASF) breaching the UK’s shores.

Officials from Dover Port Health Authority (DPHA) inspected 22 lorries originating from Romania, Moldova, Ukraine and Poland over a 24-hour period earlier this month.

Don't you think it strange that they can get rotten meat into the country but not tomatoes? It was tomatoes that you couldn’t get due to Brexit, wasn’t it?

That's interesting, but you forgot to say how many of the 22 were found to be carrying unfit meat.

I'll hazard a guess it wasn't 22.

The great tomatoe famine eclipsed the Irish potatoe famine according to remainers.

Don't hazard a guess John, tell us. The linked article tells us a good proportion that 'rotten meat' originated in the EU.

I thought it was starting 1st Jan?

We've had over five years to hire and train additional Customs Officers and sanitary inspectors. I wonder how many have been recruited?
