Depends where you look, some areas are less poorly photographed than others. Also the resolution in the Pro (paid for) version will be higher quality.
No, it's not that, and I am using the Pro version. The detail, of my home, when looked previously, allowed me to spot details in my garden. Today it was so pixelated, I could not even spot the houses on the street.

Have you tried playing with the anti aliasing feature?
I think I may have worked it out - It's showing the 1985 images, which were quite course, but there is no slider to change the image date.

On the top there should be a clock button which will allow you to change the date.
Sorted - My fault, I must have unticked the 'Historical image box.
