Stereo sound.

Sound engineer here!

I won't bore anyone with the acoustics, but unless you're sitting within the distance between the speakers from the screen (ie: a metre away from a metre wide screen, assuming speakers are at the extremities) you'll not get a proper stereo image.

You'll get summation if you're sat centrally (the left and right will combine to give you between 3 and 6dB more volume than one speaker alone) but you won't really notice where it's coming from

it's a con. Some claim to do ATMOS which is just daft.
Totally, my TV also claims it can do DTS surround sound which is obviously not true. Well it might be able to output it using external speakers but without external speakers connected it just mimics the sound. Same as Dolby ATMOS.

They've been making these claims for years. I think my first flat screen TV had something like Dolby Virtual Surround. If the speakers are only in front of you, it ain't surround! Very silly. I think these speakers pointed backwards and the sound, allegedly, would bounce off the wall and seem like surround sound. Complete BS.

That is indeed fantastic levels of BS, but some people fall for it...

I tear my hair out when I see audiophile posts on social media from people absolutely convinced they can hear things that simply aren't there!
