Or maybe he's considering introducing a clothing allowance for MPs, as is normal in other countries.

When one considers that prior to the rise of the Labour party, clothing was easily affordable for the gentry.
Now that many Labour MPs are working class, a clothing allowance would make much more sense than gifts of clothing.

E.g. there is an annual cap of about £100,000 for office and staffing costs.
Average salary for one Parliamentary Assistant £31,000.
Usually staffing costs account for about 75% of the allowance.

A director of a large corporation might spend about £3k - £4k per month (about £50k per year) on expenses.

An MP is not a director of a large corporation. I highly suspect most couldn't run a stationary cupboard, let alone a large corporation.
