Hi everyone,

I am looking to replace a ideal logic 24 due to age, heat exchanger leaking and poor modulation rates.

My home is only a small 2 bed around 60sq meters built late 90s with 6 rads in total. I will calculate the kw/btu of them shortly but the output is pretty low, 600x700 t11, 600x600 t11, 600x1100 t21, 600x800 t10, 600x900 t1 and 600x1000 towel radiator.

I understand the lowest my logic will go to is 4.9kw, looking to replace this with something which will go lower, currently unable to get anywhere close to a 20c differential between flow and return even after balancing the system.

Happy with the water output from the 24kw combi.

I will be on a tight budget to replace this so looking at the lower end boilers.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Boilers I have seen are the vokera easi heat i, glow worm compact, another ideal logic but different name, wb 1000, main eco compact/baxi 424, vokera excel i and glow worm micracom.

Thanks for your input Notch7, I am put off by another ideal due to nothing in the menu system to limit the output etc. I will look into the main with a bit more detail.

Another thing to note is my system is all piped in copper and all the radiator pipework comes out of the skirting boards in 10mm copper. Everything works great no problems. I didn't know if this would make any difference?

Fit another Logic with Open therm control.
Boiler you have, keep it for parts that are working.
No brainer.

Logic plus is 10 year warranty

My budget won't go to a logic, I would be looking at a more budget version such as the instinct. My understanding the newer logic still can't be range rated etc?

The open therm imparts more precise control
Personally do not see it being much of an issue ideal turn down ratio
30 years has taught me by cheap boiler pay through the nose for parts and after care. Cheap for a reason

I suggest you start a spreadsheet.
How far over budget is the recommended boiler?
How long would it take you save up enough to afford it?
In that time, how much would you spend on maintenance and additional fuel costs for the current boiler [some guesswork required here]?

Costing wise I'm not going to save anything on gas as my current boiler is rated the same as the newer ones. I might have a lead on second hand boiler for beer money which has the same heat ex as mine so I am tempted to look at that option first given it's just the heat ex leaking and I have the rest as spares if needed.

My best friend works for a local gas company and he said the best budget boiler he would pick is the main eco compact as it has built in filling loop, can be rear piped out of the box (handy option as my setup currently is a bit of a mess pipes going up the sides) and great support from Baxi. Looking at the modulation rates it's pretty much same as the logic.

I can update that I picked up a second hand boiler which had a good heat exchanger and my friend has since swapped this over. However I am now looking into opentherm. My boiler is a instinct 24 which has the weather compensation option which can be wired onto the X7 connector on the mainboard but I can't find anything about opentherm. Ideal are not willing to help me as I am not gas safe registered but as I pointed out to them the combustion side of things is totally separate from the electrical side.

My boiler is a instinct 24
Entry level Ideal, based on the Logic+

It is an OT enabled boiler - Get you chap to check the installation manual - all explained in there. Though if it is a normal Ideal Instinct then Weather Comp isn't on X7.

Bet that went down well with them.

Ideal won't have told you anything as they wouldn't sanction anyone that isn't GSR to be in behind the room sealed case without being able to test it afterwards. Obviously that would include any wiring required.

The instinct doesn't say anything about opentherm in the manual, however the instinct 2 does. Looking at them their are almost the same. Ideal have agreed to help me with the part number for the part I need for the loom/weather compensation.
