Probably been discussed many times, but yesterday I said to SWMBO that I would pick some beetroot for her to pickle. The beetroot was picked and pickled. Today when I logged on to the PC, loads of adverts for beetroot seeds. Be careful what you say. I don't have alexa or any **** like that, just PC, smart TV and mobiles.

You need to adjust your phone google settings to not allow audio.

Does this actually work? I tried messing about with settings like this and found that it corrupted everything. I get the feeling that Google, FB etc rely on you signing away your privacy in order for it to exist. In other words, if you say no to anything it has fit and stops functioning full stop.

I use Adblock and never see adverts, especially on this site whereas others seem to. Some sites ask you to disable Adblock to 'support' the site but there’s normally an option to 'continue with Adblock without supporting the site'. I take that option.

I have an Adblocker but it's FB that seems to mostly pick up what is said and spam us with cr@p

I use Startpage, as a search engine, firefox, adblock, and others. I never see any ads at all, anywhere.

More likely that it's a shared computer and someone searched for Beetroot pickling some time in the recent past. That sort of general surveillance isn't practical.

Plus it's crap if it works for £2 Beetroot seeds but not my discussion of 4k projectors.

Same happens to me all the time.
I don't have alexa, just a smartphone and it picks up conversations to show targeted ads.
We even tried an experiment repeating several times during the day "Fiat 500 Abarth" (my friend's idea).
I started getting ads of the Fiat 500 Abarth.
Try it yourself, it's not a conspiracy theory.

Pretty sure it is. But next time I want a laugh I'll just borrow a friend's mobile and run a search for that to pre-seed the prank. Good idea.

In Google you can opt to turn off personalised adverts
The point I was making is that I hadn't been online at all between me and SWMBO talking about beetroot, and then me logging on and seeing the adds. I know that Googling will get you loads of adds for what you Googled, but this must have been through eavesdropping via a mobile or smart TV.
