Farmers on the march

Well, I think that if I inherited an asset worth £5M which would only give me a return of 50k a year I would sell it and invest the proceeds. It wouldn't be difficult to achieve a return of more than 50k a year from the sale proceeds.
exactly - and then who would feed the nation.

IHT on farms was predictable when the torey's made noises about farms needing to get bigger to achieve economies of scale, iht will achieve this, even if its unintentional labor fiscal policy

Far-rage is targeting rural labor seats for the farmers vote. he doesn't realise they are in an absolute minority, the countryside is already full of ex townie torey voters. His hypocrisy and opportunism is sickening given the farmers he is appealing to were precisely the ones who suffered after brexhit.

It's possible, of course, that you might be arranging your business to make the profits seem very small.
Correct.
Farmers have to buy hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of equipment, year on year, that becomes obsolete or conveniently written off . We used a 'worthless' £9k Manitou last winter, bought from a penniless farmer.

you'd be able to back that up?
If @pcaouolte chooses to show me his accounting records, and I carry out some site visits and interviews, I could probably get quite a good idea.

Make a note to ask your accountant to tell you what "profit" means.

Write down the ten most popular examples.

I will ignore the possibility that your question was serious, because it it so ludicrous for you to pretend that profits can't be manipulated.

Divide and rule screws the serfs every time...

Has anyone come up with a reason why the royals and aristocracy should be exempt from IHT yet?

If this lady is not for turning full info on the tax take from farmers will be available 12 months on from this coming April. Indications will hit the news even sooner.

Just remember to separate the propaganda from the fiscal reality. Farmers will continue to go bust because of brexhit, covid, ukrane etc, and the wonderful australian trade deal courtesy of beefy

It's possible that there will not be as many ruined farmers as Clarkson pretends.

Instead, there will be fewer billionaires dodging tax by pretending to be hereditary farmers.

It's also possible that there may be more in reality...

And are you including Charlie's boy in that tax dodging billionaire category?

Because when it comes to IHT, the amount saved by one privileged family would probably approach the total IHT forfeit of the entire UK in one year...

Just as it did when the Duke of Westminster popped his clogs...

"The Duke of Westminster, one of the richest men in Britian, inherited the bulk of his father's £8.3bn fortune without having to pay a penny in death duties"

Considering the fact that the total IHT tax take at the time was approximately £4bn, then that one family could have contributed to the exchequer almost that amount by themselves...

Do you think it's fair to ruin family farms (and the good they do to the UK food supply) whilst allowing the uber rich to carry on not paying their dues?
