Hi fellow colleagues

I have a wood floor which I think is engineered wood but I cant be sure

I dont want to replace it because I cannot afford to - Is there a way to put some shine back into this flloor witha wax or oil ? I prefer something super simple so can i just paint varnish on top or will that look silly?

I dont even know if this is varnished or oiled - Anyway to determine which it is ? I know if it is wax thena wax coat should be put on and if varnished then a varnish coat put on

Is there no product which you can apply to seal the floor regardless?? Danish oil or something similar?

It could be a Lacquered, oiled or waxed floor, it’s unlikely to be varnished.

If it’s lacquered then it has a polyurethane wear coat over the wood itself, this needs sanding off back to the wood and then a treatment can be done.

If it’s oiled or waxed then a light sand/key then floor oil over the top.

what can i do with basic diy stuff? Can I put oil straight over or paint varnish or something else?

I do not have funds to hire a sander and I have done it before it causes a mess

If it’s a lacquered floor you can’t do anything at all without sanding it.

Don’t varnish it.

If it’s an open grained finish - oiled or waxed - you can use floor oil on it, if your not sure, try an inconspicuous area and see if the oil soaks into the grain or sits on the surface.

What sort of oil can I put on? Danish oil? Anything from screwfix yo can point me to please! Thanks

As long as it is open grain, use the floor oil of your choice, but you’ll want to test an area first.
