I wish we had big Don in charge over here !

No, she was cremated to prevent the long queue of people wishing to dance on her grave.
Wishing to thank her for enabling them to be homeowners you mean.
Anyone brave enough on here to admit to buying a house that was once in the ownership of the local authority, even if they weren’t the one who initially bought it under the right to buy scheme. JohnD, if his location is to be believed, has moved home numerous times so unless he is a renter, chances are he has benefitted from Maggies plan at some point in time.

I haven’t. I’ve only moved once but I know a few of my friends who have lived in ex council houses. In fact the family that bought our old house came from a housing association property and I think they weren’t allowed to buy their HA house but the HA had to give them an amount of money equivalent to the discount they would have got for them to move out and into home ownership.

Thatcher flogged 1.5million council houses and prevented new ones from being built

what she did was the start of the housing crisis that we see today where most people below 40 simply cant afford to buy a house

Do you think the people today are thanking Thatcher for making houses to expensive to buy?

Im sure private landlords are thanking Thatcher:

"41% of all council homes sold under the right to buy scheme are now being let on the private market"

"41% of all council homes sold under the right to buy scheme are now being let on the private market"

I wonder how many council homes not sold under rtb are being sublet by the current council tenants?

you can wonder all you like, thats a different issue

its no justification for thatcher flogging 1.5m council properties

She didn’t prevent them being built. Local authorities pocketed the money from council house sales and spent it on hiring hundreds of inclusion officers and other lefties into non-jobs.

No, the money went to the Treasury, not the Councils, which was the issue.
Maggie tied housing authorities hands, they had very limited borrowing powers unless tney sold their housing stock to HA’s. It wasn't enough for her to sell houses at a massive discount, she had to stop Council’s from building tnem.

Oh if only that was anywhere near true

Donald has a big following though. (y)
there are lots of people who can be persuaded that hating foreigners will make their lives better.

Not so great for the Trump voter whose Venezuelan wife has been deported.

Or the Trump voting farmers who now have no labour

Or the Trump voters who can’t now afford healthcare or meds.

But as you say….he has a big following, ain’t that great

He's achieved all that in 10 days?

Saying that, Starmer and co are strangling The UK economy in near record time. Not as quick as Truss, but worryingly rapid nonetheless.

NATO plans to offer US President Donald Trump a compromise on Greenland. The Alliance hopes that this will reduce tensions over the island, Handelsblatt reports.

NATO sources told DPA that the Alliance wants to offer Trump a significant expansion of its military presence in the Arctic.

Greenland is important because of its rich raw material resources and as a base for military control of the Arctic. In addition, shipping lanes are becoming more accessible, at least in summer, as climate change intensifies.

According to media reports, this initiative is being discussed with Trump in informal talks. New defense plans adopted in 2023 may serve as a basis for strengthening NATO's presence in the Arctic. These are classified documents that provide for strengthening deterrence and defense capabilities in the far north as well.

The United States is already using the Pituffik space base in Greenland. This base, among other things, supports missile warning systems, missile defense, and space surveillance missions. Danish military forces are also present in Greenland.

The agency adds that the debate over Greenland is dangerous for NATO. The alliance has to fear for its credibility, and on the other hand, it would be a disaster if the United States withdrew from NATO over such a dispute.

During his first term in the White House, US President Donald Trump declared his desire to buy Greenland. After winning the election in 2024, he resumed these talks.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has emphasized that the island is not for sale. According to the Financial Times, Frederiksen and Trump had a conversation before the inauguration. According to the agency's sources, Trump was aggressive and confrontational on the Greenland issue.

Recently, the US President expressed confidence that the island will be under the control of the United States.
