1st Feb 25% tariff on Mexico + Canada, 10% on China

It was a fortnight tomorrow that Trump said in his inauguration speech that foreign countries would pay the tariffs and that they would be collected by a new External Revenue Service. He is now warning Americans to be ready for pain.

Reality might dawn on some soon

And yet tourists flock there (Cancun) and The PGA hold golf events there. The same golfing fraternity that still refuses to endorse any Trump courses. (y)

They'll be paying that much extra with the tariffs.

Could get messy.
Trumps tariff policies will increase prices for American consumers either way.

Not a great look for somebody who campaigned on a ticket of lowering costs

A great comment by a Canadian:

I don't think that Americans appreciate the impact that these tariffs will have on US-Canada relations in the long term as well as trade in the long term. Even if they don't last long the damage has been done. Trust has been lost. People are angry. Most recently over 150 Canadians lost their lives in Afghanistan fighting alongside Americans in a war that was not ours. They did it because American is our friend and oldest ally and they asked us to have their backs. To be hit with these tariffs on the flimsiest pretext is a gut punch. It will cause hundreds of thousands of job losses if not millions and drive our economy into recession. As an individual I can't do much. I can stop buying American made products which I have done. Everyone I know is doing the same. Last night I watched a hockey game between the Ottawa Senators and the Minnesota Wild. The American National Anthem was booed. I am 69 years old and I have never, ever seen that happen in Canada. America First is quickly becoming American alone!
