Ukraine counter offensive

It is what it is.
What is it though? The west is funding the defence of their country, and can continue doing so. Pootin has shown willing by planting a missile in a nuclear reactor
We could all continue for another year and be in the same place just with a few hundred thousand more people deleted from this mortal coil.
As we have been doing at Pootin, the aggressor's, insistence
The other option is for the west to put boots on the ground and face the serious possibility that in a few years time there will be a few billion deleted from this mortal coil.
We were supposed to be scared by nuclear war when he invaded, but by standing firm, Pootin's threat was shown to be empty.
Deals will be done and agreements made.
This is how it's always been.
At the right time when Pootin is on the back foot.
The consequences of full out war are absolutely catastrophic for everyone involved (that's everyone in the world) in these modern times, and everyone knows it.
Deals will be done.
Deals have to be done.
Seriously?, that sounds like a Teresa May speech. In the case of Pootin no deal is better than a bad deal and the US "deal" is clearly a sh*t deal for the whole of Europe including us.

Can we?. Removing the winter fuel allowance raised £1.5 billion for the treasury, hugely unpopular but that £1.5 billion was apparently desperately needed by the exchequer. We've bunged £13 billion at Ukraine so far, so far. That's almost a quarter of the total UK defence budget.

I'm not sure we can continue doing so.

Can we afford not to ?

Furlough cost £70 billion, Irack/Afhfan wars £20 billion, so yes we can afford it. Plenty of russsian assets here to seize.

Only by borrowing more, taxes are going to have to rise by a fair old whack just to pay the interest.

Our government, on our behalf, has committed £12.8 billion to Ukraine.

I wonder what % of the population would have supported that if polled?

At what cost do you let anybody, any country invade a sovereign country ?

Standing up now could be a lot cheaper than just letting them do it.

There's a price, and a cost.

Ursula Von der Leyen speaking now. Couple of points made:

She is proposing to activate the 'escape clause' for defence investments. Allows member states to substantially increase their defence expenditure.

Work will be stepped up to accelerate the accession process of Ukraine to the EU.

'Now is the time to move mountains in the European Union ...'

Admission made there has been underinvestment in defence for the last couple of decades.

Thats the way credit and government bonds works, buy now pay interest later. Its how western economies work. Money isnt the issue, its political will, and to his credit Kieth seems to be standing firm with Volod. Would be nice to here from Borris

Good for her, Trumpf may favour capitulation but we shouldn't. How do you impose peace on a country that doesn't agree with it anyway? It just means America withdraws funding and the war continues.
