Yet another asylum seeker says 'Thank you' in their own special way to the country that accepted them

If you don’t want them working, then you either let them just live rough or you house them.

You can say “they shouldn’t be here” as much as you like, but they are here.
I certainly wouldn't use the term 'house', when what needs to be done is to incarcerate them.
Anyone arriving here by illegal means, anyone found to be living here without the correct paperwork giving entitlement to stay should be locked up in a purposefully build prison.
There they will remain until the authorities determine where they are from and ship them back. No access to human rights lawyers (they should have done that in France).
Any accompanying minors will be placed into care until their guardian/parents leave.
Give it a month for word to get round and very, very few will even attempt to come here.

I appreciate what you are saying, but given that your points ignore real world constraints…..I’m not sure there’s much to gained from making talking points which are basically fantasy.

If they came to the U.K. directly from anywhere other than their home country, claimed persecution and were refused, they should be sent straight back to the country they came directly to the U.K. from.

It's not a fantasy. If the will to do it was there then it could be done.
All we need is a government with the balls to do it.
Repeal all laws that prevent it and limit the power of the courts so that they can only cast judgement on the law as it stands.
They should not be allowing morality to cloud (or more to the point, help their cause) their judgement as they do now.

They could stay in any number of other countries if they really are fleeing persecution.
So the likes of Afghanistan, Iran, Syria and Iraq refugees should all just stop at, say, Turkey? Millions of them?

To France? Yes. They were not being persecuted there, were they?

No, from their home country.

They're not fleeing persecution, they are arriving here in a rubber dingy, which they have paddled across the channel, from a perfectly safe country. Their only motive for leaving France, and risking their lives on a dingy, is the life they have heard, they can live once here.
