Listened to a podcast today with Congresswoman Harriet Hageman who said on it, that Ukraine could not account for all the money the US had given to them. She said the US have given Ukraine $200 billion dollars and Zelensky can only account for $80 billion of that, citing they do not know where the rest of the funds went. She also said the US had gone much further than just funding Ukraine's defence but was also funding their schools and paying for Ukranians garbage collection.
The figures are definitely very confusing. The main reason that Ukraine can only account for that proportion is that is the amount they have been sent directly. The other money has been spent, on their behalf, by the USA. So Ukraine have no idea where that other money has gone.
So far, the military aid is about $80bn. The civil aid is about $40bn.
The rest is money the US has spent because of the war in general, such as on enforcing sanctions. It is not direct support for Ukraine.
As much as we paid after ww2, and for other national emergencies like furlough and baling out the banks so people could carry on borrowing to fund their other debts. Income tax was introduced to pay for that great victory at Waterloo. You be complaining about pot holes next. You don’t get services without tax

So you don’t care, as long as it doesn’t directly impact you financially situation.
My opinions are irrelevant, politicians across the board will agree tax rises are needed. Taxing the Trumpf supporting American oligarchs for profits made here would be a good start. Services will suffer because there will be more cutbacks. We can each do more to help buying buying british and holidaying here.
I would quite happily pay more tax to pay for things like education, N.H.S., defence, etc. You don't get something for nothing.
