Musk is adamant that a Mars base will be achieved within the next 30 to 40 years. I am sure people will be very much up for that..
Lots will be cheering him on, I'm sure. Then something will happen on one of the journeys and then it will be shelved and public opinion and an appetite for a more constructive budget spend closer to home, will mean Mars will become a memory.
 
These advances you speak of would need to be norm shattering to be meaningful. I can't imagine anyone finding the thought of spending thousands of years in space, appealing.
It's obviously a Screwfix trolling exercise. Nothing more.
 
If you could travel through time right now but only once, would you choose to travel back in time to witness some historic event like the wright brothers first flight or would you choose to see the future?
Good question! I think I'd go to the future so I could see how my decisions in the now/past affected what happened to me next.
