Hello Folks

I have recently had my windows replaced by a local company . Part of the process was to reduce the size of the windows in my 3 bedrooms and rebuild and plaster the stud walls . The area to be plastered measures around 1/2 meter wide by 1 meter high at each side of the 3 windows .

The plastering was carried out by the same company , who specialise in Home Improvements . I was not happy with the finish and had to spend a long time trying to rectify it . In hindsight I should have insisted they fix it , but wanted to try and get the rooms finished

I am currently in dispute with them and looking for compensation . Their position is that they only provide "Patch Plastering" - which is not of a finished standard and that this is compatible with "Industry Standards" . This wasnt mentioned by their salesman at the contract stage .

My argument is that we would never knowingly agree for them to supply a sub-standard finish which would then have to be made good later .

Does anyone have knowledge or experience of the Industry standards of which they speak .

What do you think ?

Post some pictures.

Andy
Hi Andy .

It's too late for pictures . I've rectified the plastering to the best of my abilities. Its now only noticable in certain light . My argument being that it should have been done properly by the company.

I think you're on a hiding to nothing now: the first step with defective work is to offer the perpetrator the opportunity to put the work right.

You've not given them that option and you can't show them pictures, I think you chalk this one up to experience and move on.

I think you're probably right. I should have called them back but tried to fix it to move the job on ! To be fair , I've used them a few times and their aftercare is usually good . I've asked for a discount , so we'll see what happens. I just have the feeling that the project manager is trying to fob me off with the "industry standards" jargon . If it's correct that would mean paying twice for the same job . Makes no sense!

Well that's a result !
I emailed my concerns to the company and asked them to knock half off the plastering bill . They replied today and have refunded me the full amount . Happy days .
