So had an electrician round to fit car charger, charger working ok but was a bit of a rough install so decided to take a look behind the curtain in the CU. The charger is fed from a separate CU above main board for the house that is powered from the mcb next to the main switch. That neutral wire going into top of main switch should surely be coming out of the other end for proper isolation surely?

Photos of the rest of the installation would be helpful, and it's entirely unnecessary to shove photos sideways into a PDF.
Just add the photos directly.

Apologies, getting used to new forum. Figured it out now.

Cable from mcb and main switch feed pen protection in its own unit directly above. 6mm2 3 core swa goes from charger CU through wall direct to charger. The armour hasn't been earthed either end.

I am assuming this is going to operate as intended like this and will be OK until I get another spark in. Obviously needs putting right and anyone working on either system needs to be made aware.

Did he re-jig the board to get a non rcd way? If so he would of needed a new neutral bar, that's why hes used the main neutral, bit dodgy though, get him back.

Yes slid everything along. Thinking of just getting new CU with RCBOs put in, obvs will be using a different spark.

Nothing wrong with using the main switch but he should have used, as the OP said, the load side; not the supply.

It will probably work

Impossible to know without a lot more information.

Also unclear why they installed another consumer unit for this EV charging, when an RCBO in the existing consumer unit would likely have been all that was required.

Tesla wall connector needs pen fault protection if in outside location, wouldn't all fit in CU.
