My point was actually simpler than that. Whilst in the Gulf, Trump makes a speech saying that the USA is no longer going to try to interfere in other countries internal affairs. A few days later he is pressuring our Prime Minister to release a UK citizen convicted under our laws.

The western world emerged from the perception of freedom of speech. The UK was the pioneer of it all. We are primarily responsible for its adoption throughout the globe.
Many other places don't share our values and never have done and are therefore treated accordingly with respect of their values.

I'm pretty sure that's *******s. We had freedom of speech for aristocracy but Sweden and France had freedom of speech for the common man way before we did. We still have a law on the books that says it's treason to advocate abolishing the monarchy.

There are many archaic laws that are still technically 'the law'. Many are no longer enforced.

That is true of most sexual offences irrespective of the ethnicity of the perpetrator and the victim.
