Ssssssshhhhhh, don't mention Reform.

Not many come from Turkey.
In 2024, 3,466 Turkish nationals applied for asylum in the UK, representing a 26% increase compared to the previous year, according to GOV.UK. This was a significant rise in applications from Turkish citizens, making them the sixth most common nationality applying for asylum in the UK during that period. Overall, the UK saw a high number of asylum applications in 2024, with 108,138 people claiming asylum, GOV.UK reports.

feel free to contribute.
I am.

You are all over the place with your argument. The scenario that you propose which would allow British vessels to take small boat migrants back to France (without Frances permission) simply does no or can not exist. You are just rambling boyo.

I'll help you out - it is their responsibility to take them off the ships hands.
it doesnt say they must go to France

it says "to a place of safety"

and it says "taking into account the particular circumstances of the case and guidelines developed by the Organization"

The Contracting Government responsible for the search and rescue region in which such assistance is rendered shall exercise primary responsibility for ensuring such coordination and co-operation occurs, so that survivors assisted are disembarked from the assisting ship and delivered to a place of safety, taking into account the particular circumstances of the case and guidelines developed by the Organization. In these cases the relevant Contracting Governments shall arrange for such disembarkation to be effected as soon as reasonably practicable.

my bold.

I am in French waters and I have diverted to assist a vessel in distress. I am now towing them or carrying them to France, which is the nearest safe place.
France is the contracting government and they are responsible for disembarking my rescued people to a place of safety and releasing me from my obligations with minimal disruption.
That applies everywhere, but in reality in the channel area. there's so many rescue boats monitoring the refugees boats (as you keep telling us), that there's little and rare need for a passing vessel to effect a rescue of refugees.

So we're discussing the conduct of dedicated rescue boats.

Rescue of boat in distress in French waters and it's coordinated by the French, who can and will direct other rescue boats to assist ot not to assist.
The rescued are usually taken to France.

Exactly the same applies if the rescue is effected in UK waters, UK rescue will coordinate and direct the rescue. Those rescued will be taken to UK.

But on occasions it might be more expeditious to take those rescued to the other side.
It's about saving lives not strictly keeping to rules and regulations, nor scoring pointless political points.

Genuine refugees I agree need help, Not from Albanians who were the top nationality detected arriving by small boat in 2022, with 12,658 arrivals, these are not fleeing persecution along with those from Turkey, Yemen and others. They are simply clogging up the system.
559 in 2024. I think that issue is sorted..

I have been to the Yemen, it. is a nice place. Plenty of corruption and can be dangerous but not a country to flea persecution from. (tongue in cheek)
What is happening in Yemen? Yemen is one of the world's worst humanitarian crises. It is a result of the bitter civil war, starvation, and a failing economy. Over 18 million people are in need of assistance, that's more than 55% of the population.

I thought they'd all arrived already.

pushing back a small inflatable boat overloaded with people may well put that boat in distress.
Preventing or blocking a boat from entering UK waters from French waters is not 'pushing back'. It’s 'stopping'.
