Hi

I put this hard surface protection film on the worktop for several weeks while the builders were working in the kitchen.

However, now that I've taken it off, there are marks everywhere - doesn't come off with scrubbing.

Any ideas how to remove these marks or has the film taken off the shine? See photo.

Here is the film

You could be lucky - they might just be adhesive residue from the protective film. You might want to try a variety of solvents on the glued side of a piece of the film to see if the glue can be dissolved. I'd try:

1. White spirits
2. Lighter fluid (petroleum)
3. Methylated spirits
4. Turpentine
5. Acetone (nail varnish remover)

and in that order to find one that works. Once you have a solvent which works you can try it out on a very limited area of the top to ascertain if it will also remove the coating. If it doesn't, happy days. If none of those work there are some more 'heavy duty' solvents you can try, but the more commonly found ones are the ones I listed and they'll generally lift adhesives

When we get coffee stains on our quartz worktop, normal cleaning won’t quite get them out. We've found the only thing that does is a good scrub with this stuff:

Dunno if it will work for your marks but may be worth a try.

WD40 or T-Cut.
WD40 is exceptionally good at removing adhesive from stickers, so you might be lucky.
T-Cut saved me on a couple of occasions with various stains.

I did wonder about wd40 but wasn't sure if it would take off the shine

I wouldn't have thought about TCut, thanks.

1st try: White Spirit (luckily had some in the shed)
Seems to have done the trick! Thank you @GhostIntMachine

Will check in the evening since that's when it was more obvious.

Ive got the same marks on the window but only obvious when cleaning, is it still safe to use white spirit on glass?

Good! White spirits is safe to use on glass.

I carry small bottles of various solvents in the van - to deal with issues like nitwits applying protection to historic doors with gaffa tape FFS (leaves horrible sticky residue which can be a 'mare to get off). Not keen on using abrasives like T-Cut as a primary approach because as an abrasive it might end up removing both the glue residue AND the protective coating.

Should of used glass plastic film or cut correx boards to shape and tape together.

It's definitely quartz not the artificial stuff as that goes white with with chemicals. Especially solvents.

If it's quartz use multi solvent or WD 40
They seem similar although WD 40 has oil in.
Just spray on a cloth. Go easy or you will waste it

Thanks for all your advice.

For the window, I did use the glass film protection and not the hard surface one, but because it was facing the sun and on for a good few months, I think it had the same effect.

Fortunately, for the island, I did just that and used antinox protector. Now I know to just use that in future instead of film.

I thought quartz was artificially made?
I put a brush down on a corian worktop that had been cleaned with white spirit and the surface turned white.
I guess Askilan would react the same.

I think you could be right. Quartz worktop contains resin. I'd be very careful how I cleaned that

I have had a leftover piece of my worktop quartz in the garden and used and abused it to do all sort of jobs, so it got stained.
My wife cleaned it with Cif and it came back as new.
