To be fair, there are only one or two I keep in touch with that I went to school with, so they are my main source of info on such things.

Same school as me - but in younger brother's class - checked out when still at school. About 13 or 14 years old, he used to go to the golf course to sniff glue. He came unstuck. Very sad and lonely end for someone so young.

One guy from my high school got knocked down and killed while crossing the road. He had just left a club. No idea if he was drunk, but sounded like it. Would that count as being killed by alcohol?

There are doubtless others. I am in contact with less than a dozen, among whom are (were) two who drank themselves to death, one asbestosis and one (probable) young suicide.

Sutton. Can't remember mentioning Southall. I've mentioned Croydon a lot. I worked there the last few years of my working life, which is why I stopped working. !0 years ago it was awful and it has got steadily worse.

I've asked myself the same question before, and it hit me too. Three guys from my class left before the age of 25, all related to drugs. Sad reality that we only realize with hindsight.
