Pensioner Winter Fuel Payment - I just don't get it?

'All pensioners will receive Winter Fuel Payment but those individuals with a taxable income of £35,000 or more per annum will have their Winter Fuel Payment amount claimed back via the tax system. There is an option to opt out of Winter Fuel Payment.'

Why such a high level of £35K? That's more than many earn, when they are working. What difference will 200/£300 make to those with a £35K income per year, do they even need that extra top up?

It seems to have been one extreme, then the other.
I think it’s means tested but more people are eligible. The problem with removing it was it’s popularity. Osborn or whichever Torey introduced it, did so as an electoral bribe to pensioners. The backlash when it was withdrawn was because of its success, not its unfairness. In one sense it is Starmy’s poll tax (mini version).

The employer class is always opposed to workers rights, minimum wage, etc.

Call 'em what you like - I’m talking about people who employ other people and pay them. Businesses basically. Yes, those. You wouldn’t be saying that if you ran a small business, took on an employee who went sick or fùcked you around from day one and you knew you would have a world of grief and expense just trying to get rid of them. This Day 1 rights for employees is a shirkers dream come true.

"From April, employers across the UK have begun to feel the full effect of increases to National Insurance Contributions and the National Living Wage outlined in last year’s budget. They’re also looking at the potential impact of the Employment Rights Bill on employments costs and plans, and this comes at a time of global uncertainty. Employer confidence is low which is being reflected in their hiring plans"

As a pensioner, living on a state pension, I welcomed getting the WFP, apart from a bus pass, it was the one thing I did get. I'm in a position of having been careful with money, and been in a position to be careful with money in the later part of my life. I was able to basically set myself well up, for cheaper living once retired. Having built up savings, and invested in buying my home, I'm far too prosperous to claim any means tested benefits, so I get nowt at all. I do though suspect, I could claim something for disability, with all my issues, were I to investigate that.

We (both Avril and I), do live quite well, because between us we are able to do most things which need doing, without outside help. I really would not like to be in the position of many pensioners, paying rent, many unable to do much for themselves, unable to make the best use of the little income they do have.

It will cause thousands of job exiting to other regions.

Our one advantage over our European Union neighbours was our more flexible employment rights.

As MBK said about your shítty Brexit and the folks that were affected - they need to adapt or die.....'they should see it as an opportunity....'

Mottie voted for Brexit because he didnt want "cheap foreign labour working for slave labour wages" undercutting British workers
now Mottie is complaining bitterly that Labour are creating better working conditions for British Workers

Nigel Farage's No2 plots 'reckless cuts worth more than NHS budget' as voters warned

Nigel Farage's No2, Richard Tice, has said he is plotting to slash public funding to 35% of GDP - which would wipe out a massive £275billion amid questions about Reform's NHS plans

Correct.
now Mottie is complaining bitterly that Labour are creating better working conditions for British Workers
…but totally fúcking things up for SME's by introducing a shirkers charter.

Mrs Mottie told me only today that her NHS authority have stopped the paid dependant care leave. They can still have it but not get paid for it. Some people are up in arms about it because they saw that as their right and as part of their holiday entitlement! Pìsstakers.
