I posted this under another thread but saw it had been inactive since 2008 so reposted it here

I see this is an old post, but still thought it might be worth reaching out.

I Like to think I’m good at what I do, but some of the rates I’m been offered by national companies like domestic and general, Axa etc feel low. I know it comes with the promise of volume but still until that comes its low.

I’m not a member of boxt , for either heat pump, boiler or solar but wondered if anybody has any idea of what There subcontractor rates are and the kind of volume I can expect. I’m in the Midlands

These companies are not interested in quality of work just units and numbers as cheap as they can get.

The government don't see you as part of the skilled workforce. They just see you as manual labour. And there's an endless supply of manual labour.

I don't see myself as manual labour because putting anybody in front of a boiler is illegal. Unless I decide to go back to manual labouring, I need to find work and sometimes might have to take a cut just to survive

Of course you wouldn't see yourself like that. But plenty do and there are plenty who will do substandard work for a jar of pickles.

High volume and low rates just makes busy fools - those who are willing to work 24/7 and get nothing for it.

My old boss would say to me......
"its all swings and roundabouts."

Im still not sure if it was the swing or the roundabout that was in my favour.
