Don’t bother with a separate savings account for a funeral

The cost of your funeral can be paid from one of your accounts as banks will normally pay the invoice directly from the deceased account

Distribution of your assets is done after all expenses are paid and that includes IHT if the estate has to pay them

Note that "the cost of the funeral" does not include tea and sandwiches in the vestry, or a wild night in the pub with a free bar for your chums.

You might want to put something by for that.

Put £5k in an account and let your chosen family member know that's for your funeral and what you would prefer as a send off.
A will helps if you have many heirs and don't want to share equally.
If you have a spouse a joint account will be the easiest option, no wait.

Yep, when arranging my mom's funeral they let us pay for it from her money, then they released the rest months later after probate.

On another angle to funeral plans. My neighbour is a funeral director and he is facing a long stretch in prison. He charged people for funerals that they didnt receive. He just stored their bodies in his fridges. He sold umpteen thousand payment plans that didnt exist. I always thought he was a bit. strange

His house went up for sale and the for sale sign was taken down a couple of days later and been stood empty aprox a year now. I think they have taken the house off him.
