Yesterday I watched my new Class 3 Scooter being delivered and now I've been out & about on it to become familiar with the controls, I feel the need for some insurance.
Has anybody and advice and recommendations for insurance companies and the types of cover they offer? I bought the scooter for town shopping etc as being a holiday venue, all of the Blue Badge parking spaces are usually taken up by grockles and staggering distance from the other car parking areas are too far to bother with.

maybe talk to some of the charities like ageUK - they may affiliates , or the shop you purchased the Scooter from - or various other mobility specialists - or places like SAGA

I assume you are looking for someone with specific experiance on the forum, which i'm NOT , just some suggestions

you are welcome, I guess like other insurances , you need to consider all the options , like car insurance , all the things you may want or need, public liability , accident , theft, get home if breakdown, lost keys , Excess willing to pay, noclaims etc etc

What events are you looking to insure? i.e. what are you worried about?

My own attitude to insurance is that it's generally a rip-off, and I avoid having any but what is required by law. If you have the savings, you can "self-insure", although I appreciate not everyone thinks like me.

How likely is it that it would get damaged or stolen in your area?

In terms of 3rd party liability cover, how much damage do you think you might do on a scooter? Especially if it's a speed-limited one.

Re breakdown cover, you just need the numbers of local breakdown people in your phone, and pay if/when it happens. There's not a lot to go wrong on an electric scooter, just make sure the battery is charged!

Money for me is not a problem for me (lucky old me, eh), but my wife worries over almost everything and being a class 3 scooter, she will continue to worry until she knows I'm fully insured.

I know that Mark Bates do dedicated mobilty scooter insurance, and includes (or can?) puncture cover

no personal use of it though.

I guess the issue is if you're driving on the road and you cause an accident which results in expensive costs.

I note though it's not a mandatory requirement, perhaps surprisingly if you will be driving on the road.

Same as with bikes and horses. If there is a collision it is almost always going to be the fault of a car driver not giving space - pretty hard to not stop in time at 8mph with automatic brakes.

I use Blue Badge Mobility Insurance.

Used them for years, they only once put the price up and even then, it was only a few quid.

They used to be in Petersfield near where my sis lives, but must have moved.

They do breakdown.

I have never had need to use it but I want to have cover just in case.

Went to Coventry the other week and there loads of people on mobility scooters driving like nutters. One bloke on a pedestrian only area with his machine set to 8mph and he's on the bloody phone nearly ran me down. Gave him a right talking to and he looked a bit sheepish.

I had a very quick search for mobility scooter insurance, out of curiosity, and the only company I've previously heard of is Adrian Flux:

who are a specialist insurer for more exotic cars. I know its a long-established company. It's not a recommendation though, more an observation, I don't have a mobility scooter (yet!)
