Electric VW so cheap.....why

And would you say you were genuinely and sincerely open minded, going into the experiment?
Well, as I had a luxury car at the time, just stepping into that bog made of cheap plastic started sending chills down my spine.
Then my poor aging vertebrae started complaining as soon as I sat on those garden benches they call seats.
The driving was simply jerking and disappointingly slower than my much older 3.0 litre.
Braking was poor, steering responsiveness very bad, similar to that of old BMW that use to swerve everywhere.
Hard suspensions fit only for driving on a smooth road made of glass.
All for double the money of any decent car.
No thanks.

Hmm.. Well.. To be fair most of the complaints there don't really have anything to do with the fuel, drivetrain or salient ownership-experience differences that an EV offers. I hope there was still some tar left on your brush at the end of the test drive!

But you do seem to have answered my question :)

Pound for pound it's a lot cheaper to drive 100k miles in a £50k ice car than a £100k milk float

Our car was neither.

An MG4 Trophy long range like ours cost £32,500 in July 23.

It's never given us any trouble and costs peanuts to fill up at home overnight. There are far fewer parts to go wrong too. And the fact you don't have to worry about gear changes means it goes like stink off the mark, if you like getting ahead of people at the lights.

For £32k you can get a Passat sport.
Will make you swallow your tongue off the mark at the lights.

Can you show your workings to back up this claim

It's difficult to tell exactly what you're talking about, as the description is quite vague, but a quick search on eBay showed the most expensive "Passat sport" at 7k, probably not the model you're referring to. Searching autotrader for Passat with keyword "sport" brought plenty of cars in the 32k range, mostly 1.5 litre turbo petrol/electric hybrids, which I'm naturally curious as to whether you're recommending or not given the wearying disdain evident for anything with an electric power train. There were also some 2.0 TDI..

The MG4 trophy does 0-60 in 7.7 seconds, whereas the hybrid/diesel Passat does about 9.3

Can't help but think your vague description has fallen down here somewhat. Perhaps you're referring to some 2 litre turbo petrol variant like a Skoda vRS that does get a faster time than the EV...

..or perhaps if a 32k Passat MHEV is going to risk you choking, you shouldn't buy an average EV

To be fair, apart from the claimed lack of performance, (maybe someone didn't trust you and left it in "valet mode"? ;)) Many of those criticisms have been levelled at the early Model 3 Teslas.

"Other EVs are available"...

Yeah, I've heard some people can swallow their tongues if they fall asleep...:ROFLMAO:

Even the 3.6 litre VR6 can't manage a 5 second 60. Best take a good book to read....

Probably can't do 70 MPG either...;)

If including the price of the vehicle then it would be.
Just as it would be comparing a £50k petrol car and a £100k petrol car.
Or a £50k diesel and a £100k diesel.
Or any other type of fuel.
