Could anyone tell me what the exterior finish on my house is? Looks like a coarse type of render—next doors is similar but much smoother, which I’d like to replicate. How easy / difficult would that be?
I say that because mine has what looks like that same blistering effect in the low spots (evident more in your photo #3) with that partial smoothed out appearance, with just the tips showing.
edit: properties in my area generally jack-hammer old render back to brick, then apply new.

The bungalow opposite me had this done about 10 years ago. I enquired about the prices at that time and IIRC £6k was mentioned. That didn't require any scaffolding though.
I ended up using contractors to remove the flaking paint as much as poss, and repaint. They used some treatment (peel-stop?) for surface prep.
Does anyone here know if a new smooth render could be applied directly onto the old coarse render? I'm guessing it could, although I'm not sure it would be the best idea.
