Gap between cooker and wall

Make some kind of custom splashback that angles forward at the bottom to cover the gap?

That's the purpose of the post. Splashback angles won't look good plus it's made of vinyl not heat resistant; has to be metal not sure if I can use timber?

Yes it will have to be fireproof, so yes probably made of metal.

You also want something that will be able to deal with water spillages from cooking, (that's why I said angled forwards at the bottom) and that water can't get down the back of.

It might be good too if it was easily removable for cleaning, and for access behind the cooker.

This is an old pic of the kitchen with the gas hob, I don't have a close up but can be guessed the hob was sitting on the worktop, but foolishly he cut the worktop part behind the hob; exactly where salt/pepper pots sit in the photo and that's why we have the gap now.

The obvious difference, is that the original unit, was a built-in cooker, with a hob, inset into the worktop. You replaced it with a freestanding cooker and hob. The engineer, simply made the best of it - it would have been a fire risk, to have left the worktop edge, exposed to the flame of the different hob..

Simple aluminium angle under tile edges fixed to wall, sprayed with white enamel.

Hi
I sent a gas engineer to replace a gas cooker at a rental property but made a mess of it, there is gap between wall and cooker as in pics. What part can I put there?

Obviously not the full story initially then.
Quadrant tiles? Hanging in the air?
Obviously not, but I thought making a ledge would have been obvious?

So if no obstruction, why don't you push it back?
I think cooker / worktop is tight fit, seems he didn't cut it straight, he even damaged worktop because wrong/worn blade and no tape. He should have left 2mm gap each side but it's like push fit!

So trim it back to fit .
