Dash Cam recommendation

I have a viofo dual camera, it's been good for recording with nice clear images on both cameras.
The battery did die after a very hot sunny day so since then I just plug it into the cigarette lighter (aux power) socket.

To watch the videos should I need to I just carry an SD card reader that fits onto my phone in the car.

Bought something called an SJ4000, 5 or 6 years ago for my push bike, liked it so much i fitted one to the car and van, paid 30-40 for them - been super reliable
they all work as dash cams, switch on with the ignition, screen goes off after a minute, quality is excellent in good light, struggle to read reg plates at dusk or very poor conditions - the one with a 64gb card records just under 8 hours

still seem to sell them - whether they are the same quality is a big question, (mine is not wifi so they have changed something) but if they are they are good value

I'm reading that the app for Nextbase dashcams can be problematic ... takes too long to download ...

Cigarette power lead hanging across your view? Wifi needed if you have one with no screen to be able to view and download clips. Only thing is, most of the Apps that you need for say BlackVue and Road Angel get terrible reviews.
It would depend on the car, however in most cases the cable can be quite easily routed from the camera around the perimeter of the window, usually tucking in to the trim. That's what I did, then routed it under the footwell held in place with clips. My 12v socket is on the centre console, where it plugs in. And even if you hard wire, the cable's still got to get from the camera down to wherever.

I managed to do the same with the rear camera, cable routed along the top, tucked into trim.

Do consider a rear camera, great as proof if you've had someone tailgate you, road rage etc.

I've had the Xiaomi 70 Mai in both my cars for several years and never failed.
They're small enough to fit behind the rearview mirror and images is good.
Also app is very easy to use.
Only gripe is that they're designed for European market, so the function button is on the left side.
Said that, I never touched that button, but I would prefer to see the reassuring green light from the driver's seat.
They're very good value for money.

I have a car with 4 factory fitted all-round cameras, as parking aids.

I find it very strange that there is no facility to add a recorder.

Have a nextbase , easy setup , has optional plug in reverse lens so rear cam set up is simple .
No seen one with Wi-Fi .
Not seen one without a screen ( how would you set up if you can’t see what it’s pointed at)
They all have movement sensors , but can be turned off , though would be silly not to have a video of being hit while parked .?
Comes with memory slot to record .

I have mentioned a Chinese manufacturer (Viofo) in the thread, but I do wonder about the internet connected ones and what the Chinese government might be doing with the footage.

I note that in China, Teslas are banned from military installations because of their cameras.

Forgot to mention that these dash and don't have a sucker mount, but they use a very discreet static film, easily fitted and easily removed.
I leave mine in the car as they're invisible unless you're looking for them.
