Lucy Connolly to be freed

I’ve got to be honest, I find people using the word gammon as an insult offensive.

But why. I keep going back and forth between thinking it is just a bit of silly fun and wondering whether it actually is offensive.

That’s my opinion, I know in the GD we aren’t allowed one that doesn’t agree with the lefties.

Sometimes you need to get off your fence and have an opinion rather than play both sides.

You sound like my old friend Sunshine!

Why does everyone need to have a strong opinion on GD. What is wrong with having a nuanced and balanced outlook. I have read several articles making good points both for and against the word Gammon being racist. I am still undecided. I keep hoping that somebody will provide a really good explanation which will tip me one way or another. To me, that would be a proper "discussion".

Personally, I don't use the term because I know some people find it offensive.

That has actually helped. I have read all those articles before, but not for a while. I definitely agree that it offensive. I would put it on a similar level to snowflake in that respect. The other point is whether it is racist. That is still more difficult to work out.
It’s a lot more offensive than “snow flake” that’s belittling it.

It probably comes down to context. I would imagine that if you are a struggling young person and you are told that you are a snowflake by someone much older who is a lot more experienced and powerful, then you would find that very offensive.

It's immature, convinces no one, and is so very annoying.. And, it gets the posters posts, blocked by anyone with any real sense!

Not as immature as (metaphorically) running away - putting someone on Ignore - because they don't like their lies, hypocrisy, and bitterness pointing out (y)

RW are the real snowflakes (y)
