I've got a complaint with my new motor already!

does the car display irritating messages when you switch it off ? had a loan of a new merc when ours was in getting fixed (£850 for an alarm part, glad it is under warranty)) when you switch it off a large message fills the display saying "don't leave people or animals in the car" salesman said it is standard on all new cars now and it can't be turned off. Arguably a worthy message and since it is something I never do I really do not want to see it every time I get out of the car.

I literally had to look online how to put the parking brake on. It really wasn't obvious sitting in the car!

The first day of my wife's new car - rolled it down the driveway into my own car (it has a seriously odd pedal offset which meant the clutch pedal was where I thought the brake pedal would be), all I found where the handbrake lever should be was half a packet of wine gums and a phone cable. A moderately expensive mistake!

Considering how fast I hit it - one broken reflector, 2 scuffed bumpers and two snapped M12 bolts on the towbar bracket which must have absorbed a lot of impact.

Just found out that it’s a common problem with hybrids in so far as that you hardly have to touch the brake to slow down. In regen mode 3 on this car you can practically come to a stop by taking your foot off the throttle! Reading up, there’s a 'Disc cleaning' programme on the car! Just been out and tried it and it has cleaned them a bit. Can’t see too well at the moment but I’m going to notify the dealership to tomorrow that I’m not happy and if they don’t clean up after a week or so, they'll have to sort me out a new set of discs and pads.

Might work better with a load of weight in the back? Rears don't do much work when lightly laden.

Mine tells me to "Watch out for bags and passengers behind the front seats" (or something like that), as the front seats automatically move backwards when you turn off the car.
To make it easier to get out of and, upon next trip, get into.

Picked our new EV up.last August. It sat on the drive for two weeks 'updating' the firmware and recognising us as the new 1st owners. It cost the London dealership. So many of the pre-delivery checks had been ignored/omitted despite the pre-collection emailed exchanges. I noted they were advertising for 'technicians' outside the dealership, online and in the press. They set the delivery date , probably to meet a target of theirs rather than ours. It was a shambles start to finish.

It'll be second nature by the end of the month. I have the opposite problem when I get in my old Alfa, but the other way round and sometimes forget to put the handbrake on / take it off!

I did some work on a very tragic fatal accident where the same thing had happened. Old guy changed cars. New one had a very different pedal offset to his previous car. Came up to a T junction, pushed the brake pedal to the floor, thinking it was the clutch, and an artic went into the back of him.

Just noticed this - I'm going to get on to the dealership tomorrow to take it up with them. Bearing in mind I only picked up the new car yesterday and it had 46 miles on the clock, look at the condition of the rear brake discs. Pitted to fùck! Fronts are fine. I know some cars can get rusty discs after just washing them (our A3 was like that) but they clean off after a few hundred yards. I’ve done about 30 miles in this and they are looking terrible. Must have been sitting about for a while. I’m not having that!

Might be standard on all new cars of that marque, but none of my new cars have ever done it. VAG vehicles tend to put up a "please remember your mobile phone" message when you shut them down.

I do think there's a huge amount of training that needs to be done with dealers and sales staff, when it comes to new technologies in general and EVs in particular. Some of them know very little about their own products!

Feeling a bit better this morning. Went out with the 'disc cleaning' programme on. They seem a lot better after 8 miles compared to yesterday. Just the inner edges of the disc need a bit more cleaning off. I would have thought that the dealership or manufacturer would have made customers aware of that but maybe the majority of drivers wouldn’t even think of looking at their brake discs?
