Zone 2 demister mirror in Zone 1

Thanks for replying. You wave your hand to turn it on and off. The power supply comes in behind the mirror (at 1.75m high) and controlled by a rocker switch outside the bathroom.

So the rocker switch won’t actually turn the mirror lights and heat pad on but will turn them off

Thanks. I spoke to the manufacturers (Hib) and they say I can't adapt it. (That said, they didn't seem particularly knowledgeable or interested.) I'm just a bit surprised that a company that pitches itself as a bathroom supply shop only sells Zone 2 products. It's my own stupid fault for taking my eye off the ball.

If you bought it from a business, and it's unused, can be repacked, etc, return it for a refund - you're allowed to change your mind. You have to pay the cost of returning it.

Why?

Thanks for the replies

The power will only be live to the mirror if I turn the rocker outside the bathroom on. I'm assuming that when the rocker is turned on, a hand wave will turn the LEDs and demister on together, but I haven't tried it.

I've opened the back and below are photos. The white cable runs to the demister, the black is the power in. I like the mirror so I'd like to keep it and use it in Zone 1 if that's going to be possible, so your advice as to how to do that would be appreciated. (I see the LED driver is SELV so is that a good thing?!) Thanks

It also says IP44, which I believe is okay for bathroom Zone 1?
It is the IP rating of the whole mirror assembly, not just the individual components: power supply, sensor switches that you need to consider.
But the big thing is that the maker (ie supplier of the assembly ) states its only suitable for Zone 2.

Yes, so my original question was whether there was anything that could be done to make it suitable for Zone 1. A couple of other replies made me hopeful there was but I appreciate the manufacturer’s position is the official position as regards safety and suitability and therefore not.

To be compliant with BS7671 then you could put that mirror in zone 1.
But you cannot connect it to a mains voltage!.

..so don’t connect it to the power supply in the first place.

Out of interest, shouldn’t these electrical items be marked with their IP rating than rather rely on a line on a piece of paper that will go in the recycling bin once installed?

Your demister element seems to be 240V.

Do you think that could be removed without taking the silvering off the back of the mirror, in order to replace it with a 12V one? Has anyone ever tried to do anything like that?

Plan B:

Just put the efin thing in and avoid touching the wires with wet fingers.
