How do you cope with pain? Long term pain?

I have been suffering with lower back and burning pain for over 30 years! Its much worse now as i am older.

Yes, i have been to the vet many times!

Tried various meds, different 'specialists' like Chiropractors etc. Had injections, all to no avail.

Tried different exercises too. Nothing really helps.

I was part of the NHS pain clinic too but after several years with them nothing has helped and my last appointment the 'Doc' / 'Vet' was useless to say the least.

All i take now is Ibuprofen and Paracetamol. Lower back can be like toothache...and i cant sit long due to terrible burning pain on rear legs. Cant stand long as back in half!!! Life is just full of suffering....

How do you suffer with chronic pain?

My docs are just useless...

Did you originally damage your back?

As I'm sure you're aware, the burning pain is caused by nerve damage, so it is a case of trying to minimise further damage.

Have you had an MRI?. I have a herniated L5 and damaged sacroiliac.
I use a kneeling chair when I work which helps
I also do a couple of stretching classes a week as well as try to do weights and spin cycling at least 3-4 times a week.

It keeps me spasm and pain free.

Had a couple of MRI's...got bulging discs. Back has gotten steadily worse over the years as has the burning pain....

Tried umpteen things.

Now, even lying down is painful...

Sorry to hear. I don't have any chronic pain, but multiple injuries from exercise including herniated disc L4-L5. Ibuprofen + rehab + long term posture correction helped to fix it.

I am sure you are aware, but I would caution long term Ibuprofen use... perhaps go off it for a bit if you can. That stuff is terribly for gut lining and can cause other issues if taken in large doses over long term.

In terms of rehab, I read Dr Stuart Mcgill's "Back Mechanics". I highly recommend his book for lower back issues, it's not just to start doing the McGill's "big three" several times a week but also a bit of a guide as to how to live with it.

I only take ibuprofen and paracetamol when it gets really bad. I try not to take it every single day..

Its not nice have the chronic back and burning issues as its stops one from 'living' a normal life...

I cant walk far. And i would love to go hiking!! I cant...back really hurts after a short walk...

Going out for a meal or just driving is very uncomfortable because of the burning pain....

Like now, i have to lie down when home. Cant sit on the sofa etc etc (even though i live in shared accomodation so i only ever stay in my room)...

I have zapain, which is Co-codamol, 30mg Codeine 500mg Paracetamol, the problem it is an opioid painkiller. So I don't like taking them, so it is a balance. I find Penderyn (Welsh Gold) is a good alternative.

Thirty year ago I had an out of the blue crippling attack of sciatica and lower back pain. Followed by further attacks that were less painful. Eventually my GP suggested a new treatment. An epidural injection with added steriods. After the injection I had to spend several hours on a hospital bed as my legs were out of action.

Since then no pain problems other than those that come with old age.
