Because the valve is meant for gas lines? Perhaps seals not tested to 10 bar or whatever that you gas line will never ever reach on domestic sites. Perhaps Gas112 will have a more definitive answer
Why would you want to use this for your garden water, rather than a blue one?
Note previous threads have recommended spending a bit more for the Pegler one, i.e. Screwfix 11085, as it may last longer without leaking. I’ve no personal experience of that though.
The valve has probably not undergone the tests required for suitability to connect to the public water supply and in this country most quality importers/manufacturers would also seek WRAS approval.
Of course that doesn't stop 1000s of suppliers selling unapproved/untested products for the public & plumbers to illegally install knowing little checks will be done.

I had one of these on my water butt for 10 years or more, burst in the frost last year. have now converted it to mains and when replacing valve I just said to girl at counter - have you got one of these handing her the old one.
Its on and it all works fine, I was just curious about the non potable water bit
