Charlie Kirk

the Guardian tells how...his career had also been marked by the promotion of misinformation, divisive rhetoric and conspiracy theories, including 2020 election-fraud claims and falsehoods around the Covid pandemic and the vaccine. Kirk expressed openly bigoted views and was an unabashed homophobe and Islamophobe. As recently as Tuesday of this week he tweeted: “Islam is the sword the left is using to slit the throat of America.”

His evangelical Christian beliefs were intertwined with his politics. He argued that there is no true separation of church and state and warned of a “spiritual battle” pitting the west against wokeism, Marxism and Islam. During an appearance with Trump in Georgia last fall, he claimed that Democrats “stand for everything God hates”, adding: “This is a Christian state. I’d like to see it stay that way.”

He also referenced the Seven Mountain Mandate, which specifies seven areas where Christians are to lead: politics, religion, media, business, family, education and the arts, and entertainment.

Kirk [also] denied the climate crisis, supported fossil fuels and opposed DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) programmes. He had also called white privilege a “myth”, labelled the Civil Rights Act of 1964 a “huge mistake” and criticised Martin Luther King as overrated.

An Alex Jones conspiracy minion, then. I can't imagine why anyone would want to take a pop at him.

No wonder their flags are to be flown at half mast for so long.

The right to own a gun in the US is tantamount to the right to religious belief. Some states don’t require proper background checks.
More guns in America than people.
What can go wrong.

for the sake of a handfull of lunatics who can gain access to a gun should not prevent the countless responsible gun owners from obtaining them. Might as well ban alcohol for the few that drink drive and whilst your at it ban cars too.

I don't think you can equate driving deaths with gun deaths...

It's a matter of intent...

I don't think on the whole someone speeds with the intention of killing, but pulling a gun trigger is invariably intentional...

Kirk tried to equate the two, but giving the reason as an essential to 'freedom'.
I wasn't.

I was referring to the hypocrisy of man (and woman)

Assault rifles used to be legal in the UK.
They were banned after the Hungerford massacre.
Tbe Dunblane killer used a legally held automatic pistol
Since these weapons have been banned, i don't think there has been any more mass shootings.
It is interesting to note that, almost all mass shootings in America and Britain have been carried out by people using legally held weapons.
I am 100% confident that, if firearm ownership was more widespread in the UK, near the point of being commonplace, we'd have a LOT more shootings. Think of extreme road rage incidents, neighbour disputes etc.

Top and bottom of it is that he was murdered in cold blood regardless of the type of weapon used. Blame the person not the weapon.

It's the type of guns as well, no one need an assault rifle or a machine gun at home.

What sort of guns should the public have access to.
Shotguns are used by farmers.
Would you lift the ban on assault rifles .

Well if that's what The Guardian tells you to think, you really have little choice do you?

As of 2024, the UK has approximately 147,364 firearm certificates and 495,798 shotgun certificates on issue in England and Wales, and additionally, there were 25,145 firearm certificates and 43,809 shotgun certificates in Scotland. These figures represent the number of certificates for specific types of guns, with many certificate holders possessing multiple firearms or shotguns.
